About the venue

country house with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere within The Dartmoor National Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty.

Lydford House has been welcoming guests for over 100 years and was built by the celebrated artist William Widgery (1822-1893). Surrounded by the high Tors, it stands in 8 acres of delightful gardens and pastureland in the historic village of Lydford through which the River Lyd rushes before tumbling through the renowned National Trust gorge with its spectacular White Lady waterfall. Situated close to the Devon/Cornwall border, the high cliffed North Cornish coastline, gentler South Devon coast, Eden Project and many other sites of interest are all less than an hours drive away. Situated in The Dartmoor National Park and surrounded by beautiful grounds, Lydford House provides that 'get away from it all' feeling that you need for fresh ideas or to raise motivation. We're secluded, providing you with total privacy and confidentiality. Our style is 'unstuffy', offering you a friendly, relaxed atmosphere in which to take time out to perhaps initiate positive changes. We can host small-scale conferences, seminars, training and team building sessions. You can also hire the whole hotel for exclusive use or book just a couple of rooms. You name it, we give you the time and space for it. Time out - mix pleasure with your business We can arrange all kinds of events, indoors and out, from hiking, orienteering, cycling, fishing, archery and horse riding for the active, to tours of local historic castles, houses or the Eden Project for the less active! We tailor our breaks to your individual needs, whether you need a few armchairs and coffee on tap, or a full scale boardroom set up with exact timings for breaks and specified equipment. Our Business Coordinator will work with you to help plan your break and attend to your every need. With our Italian chef, Valerio, creating lunch, together with home made cakes at coffee breaks, a walk out onto the moors is essential to prevent an extra notch on the belt. Lydford is the perfect location for peninsula conferences, there is easy access from all corners of the county of Devon and only a short distance to the Cornish border. We are 400 metres from the A386 running down to Tavistock/Plymouth in one direction and Bideford/Barnstaple in the other. The A30 is 4 miles from our door, providing easy access to Exeter and the M5 in an easterly direction and west to Launceston and Bodmin.
