About the venue

Whilst many hotels claim to have Edinburgh's landmarks on their doorstep, few can say their doorstep is a landmark.

The Balmoral combines service that is attentive yet never intrusive and has opulent suites and stylish rooms with stunning views towards Edinburgh Castle, the Old Town or the internal courtyard of the hotel for utter relaxation. The hotel's recent £7 million refurbishment programme includes all 188 bedrooms, the Sir Walter Scott Suite and seven further conference and banqueting suites, Hadrian's Brasserie, number one restaurant and the lobby. The Balmoral has many delights on offer: Michelin-starred number one restaurant with outstanding cuisine provided by Chef Jeff Bland; Hadrian's for chic and informal dining; Palm Court for over 50 delicious cocktails or traditional afternoon tea; NB's Bar for a relaxing drink with live entertainment; and The Balmoral Spa, an exclusive retreat in the heart of the city. Centrally located near the leading luxury department stores and next to Waverley Station, The Balmoral is only 25 minutes by car from Edinburgh International Airport, making it the ideal accommodation from which to enjoy the many events held in Edinburgh, including the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Hot News! The Balmoral has been voted Edinburgh Hotel of the Year 2005 and winner of The Scottish Hotel Marketing Award 2005 voted for by HotelReviewScotland.com at the prestigious held on 17 April. Overview The Balmoral has ten stunning conference and banqueting suites, which benefit from natural daylight and can accommodate private dinner parties, business meetings, conferences and receptions for up to 450. Our signature Sir Walter Scott Suite was refurbished in March 2004. This stunning suite provides a magnificent ballroom for up to 280 people, a cocktail reception for up to 450 guests or an inspiring conference room for up to 350 delegates theatre style. Seven further conference and banqueting suites were refurbished in 2003. All suites are equipped with the latest audio-visual technology and can be set according to your needs. Many of the rooms have stunning views of Edinburgh Castle and the surrounding hills and provide an inspirational setting for your event. We are also pleased to offer high speed Internet access at the hotel. An overview of our Conference and Banqueting Rooms: Sir Walter Scott Undoubtedly one of the most impressive of banqueting suites in the city, The Sir Walter Scott, located on the ground floor, has magnificent views of Edinburgh Castle. The Suite has retained fifteen original chandeliers from the hotel's opening in 1902, which are the largest collection of hand painted chandeliers in Europe. The Suite was fully refurbished in 2004 and boasts two specially commissioned murals, gold leaf detail around the columns and a beautiful interior design. The Sir Walter Scott can accommodate up to 350 people theatre-style, 450 for cocktails and 280 guests for a dinner dance. Holyrood The Holyrood Suite, situated on the ground floor of the Balmoral, has a corner position with spectacular views of Edinburgh Castle, the Old Town and Arthur's seat. The room has long rectangular windows, allowing natural daylight to flood the room. Original chandeliers from the hotel's opening in 1902 and the beautiful ornate cornicing provide the perfect setting for a conference (120 people) and 200 guests for cocktails. Waverley The Waverley Suite, situated on the ground floor, has large windows along one side of the wall with views of The Old Town and Arthur's Seat. Suitable for up to 70 guests theatre style, 40 guests in "U" shape seating or up to 60 guests for a dinner. The Waverley adjoins the Holyrood Suite and can be used either as a syndicate room or for pre-dinner drinks. Princes The Princes Suite faces directly onto one of Europe's most famous thoroughfares, Princes Street. Natural daylight is provided by the vast windows, which stretch two sides of the room. A magnificent fireplace along with original chandeliers and beautiful cornicing provide a regal setting, suitable for a variety of occasions, including 120 guests for cocktails and 60 people theatre-style. The Second Floor of The Balmoral offers six stunning banqueting rooms, which all face Edinburgh Castle. These rooms provided an excellent backdrop for meetings, breakfast and lunch presentations, dinners, press conferences and cocktail parties. All rooms have period detail such as original cornicing and fireplaces, which contrast with the neutral colours and contemporary style and flair that Olga Polizzi has cleverly introduced.
