Castle Howard is one of Britain's finest historic houses and is still home to my family whose forebears conceived, designed, and built it over three centuries ago. In this, the 21st century, the business flourishing on the estate means we are able to preserve, conserve, restore and improve not only the many fine buildings, but also the landscape in which those edifices reside. I hope this site provides you with the information you seek. Indeed, I hope it encourages you to visit us and see for yourself how this magnificent enterprise has adapted into that which exists today. Castle Howard has been entertaining guests for over 300 years and our tradition of warm hospitality and inspirational entertaining continues in strength today. Each year we welcome many clients to our magnificent house and gardens. Often they are looking for a unique venue and we pride ourselves on being able to offer exclusive use of several locations within the House; including the Great Hall, Grecian Hall and Long Gallery, as well as a choice of exclusive event sites within the grounds and gardens.

Old Wardour Castle sits dramatically as the centrepiece to a beautiful and romantic landscape beside a secluded lake deep in the Wiltshire countryside. Inspired by a French chateau, it was built in the late 14th century by the fifth Lord John Lovel. The castle was used as a luxurious home, which reflected Lord Lovel’s status as a nobleman and his immense wealth, gained from his marriage to well connected heiress Maud Holand. During the English Civil War in the 1640s however, the castle was damaged beyond repair. In the 1700s, the Arundell family integrated the ruins into the landscaped grounds of their new home. Ruins were popular in picturesque landscapes as a reminder of a world of knightly chivalry and Old Wardour was no exception. Today, the ruined walls, gothic stairways and lakeside setting offer a storybook location for events. The distinctive hexagonal walls are instantly recognisable as the backdrop for scenes from the film ‘Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves’, starring Kevin Costner. Most recently, the Castle has been licensed for civil wedding ceremonies.
