About the venue

The City Rooms is a beautiful Georgian Grade 1 listed building located in the heart of Leicester City Centre.

The historic venue, built in 1792, was intended to become Leicester’s first hotel, used to house the visitors to the Leicester Races held at Victoria Park. Sadly, the hotel was never completed and the building was sold with the ground floor being used as a coffee house and the upper floors for banquets, wedding receptions and balls. Now, The City Rooms has undergone a careful two year restoration to bring the building back to life. Comprising three lavishly decorated meeting rooms, a bar, the grand ballroom and four luxurious bedrooms, The City Rooms is open as first intended more than 200 years after work began. A place for business, The City Rooms can provide the setting, the service and the high standards expected of a venue that has stood the test of time. THE LORD MAYOR’S ROOM The smallest of our ground floor rooms, this suite is the perfect host for small meetings and conferences for up to 60 delegates. The room is lavishly decorated and maintains various original features. THE DRAWING ROOM Located at the front of the building on the ground floor this room boasts tall windows which flood the room with natural daylight, offering views over the surrounding streets of Leicester. It is ideal for meetings for up to 60 delegates, or as a syndicate room to large meetings taking place in the Ballroom. THE DINING ROOM This is the largest of the ground floor meeting rooms, perfect for meetings for up to 70 guests. Located at the front of the building and conveniently situated next to the bar area, this room may also be used in conjunction with the bar as an ideal syndicate room for large scale conferences in the Ballroom. The room is flooded with natural daylight from tall windows looking out onto the busy streets of this flourishing city centre. THE BALLROOM This magnificent room runs the whole width of the first floor of the building and provides a grand setting for up to 200 delegates. Flooded with natural daylight from three large windows, together with its high ceiling, chandeliers and historical artifacts it is a truly breathtaking space. For large scale conferences the three rooms downstairs make ideal syndicate or break out areas. We also have a lift fitted to ensure the Ballroom is readily accessible for all guests. THE BAR The City Rooms Bar is situated on the ground floor of this magnificent building, and contains probably one of the most unusual elements of it – a free standing staircase with cast iron banisters sweeping grandly towards a solid wall. Originally designed to link the main City Rooms with a later extension, this staircase now provides a link to the past uses of the building.
