There has been an Inn here for so long it is uncertain when it was built. Originally the famous Peacock Inn, it was the property of the Duke of Rutland and served the turnpike between industrial Chesterfield and the spa town of Buxton. It became the Duke of Devonshire's property around 1830 and in the early 1970's was rebuilt as the Cavendish by Chatsworth Estate when the original character was preserved and the Duchess of Devonshire selected the decor and furnishings, some of which came from Chatsworth House itself. The Cavendish has operated since 1975 under the proprietorship of Eric Marsh. A closely knit team is dedicated to looking after guests as individuals, not simply room numbers. The Hotel exudes a quiet elegance; an extensive collection of original artwork, antiques, charming furnishings and decor maintained in a continual programme of improvements all add to that elusive dimension - tranquillity. Add to that, of course, that view from the window of your bedroom; no traffic, only fields and you will begin to understand the lure of the Cavendish. CONFERENCES Conferences The Boardroom at the Cavendish Hotel is situated on the ground floor overlooking the garden. It is furnished with red leather upholstery, antique brass lights, fine lithographic prints and features an open fireplace. The room is designed for meetings, receptions or dining and can seat 16 boardroom style or 20 theatre style. The area is well lit, carries ample phone, tv and power sockets and has interlined curtains. A flip chart is available free of charge and audio visual equipment can be hired.

    • ·30 attendees
    • ·3 meeting rooms

Eyam Hall has been the home of the Wright family for over 300 years. We opened it to the public in 1992, but it retains the intimate atmosphere of a much loved private home. Few houses offer such character and charm as Eyam Hall. Under the watchful gaze of the Wright ancestors' portraits you will visit the beautiful stone flagged hall, a unique tapestry room, the bedroom with a magnificent tester bed. Other rooms reveal costumes belonging to family members, precious artefacts and fascinating family mementos. Observant visitors may even come across the ghostly apparition of Sarah Mills, a young servant girl, who drowned herself in the well and still answers the night bell! The walled garden, now open to the public, is nearing the end of a restoration project and visitors can delight in the knot garden, the avenue of espaliered apple trees and the rose walk. CONFERENCES In the heart of the Peak District Eyam Hall is ideally situated for a small day conference or group meeting. Delegates cannot fail to be inspired by the beautiful surroundings in the Hall itself and the gardens. The meeting rooms at Eyam Hall are the hall which is suited to theatre style seating for up to 30 delegates and the dining room and drawing room for smaller group meetings. All three rooms are on the ground floor and are easily accessible. Lunch is served in the Gallery room, an attractive 17th century converted barn.
