The ghost of Mary Queen of Scots is said to haunt the Elizabethan Talbot Hotel. The oak staircase, and other parts of the building, were brought from the ruins of Fotheringhay Castle. It was down these steps that she walked to her execution. If all this sinister historical association puts you off, you needn't worry, Queen Mary hasn't been sighted for over a week now. The hotel boasts oak beams, open fires and transomed windows. The intimate restaurant and cosy bar offer traditional British cuisine, fine wines and real ales. The Talbot has recently been fully refurbished, keeping its charm and character while bringing the facilities bang up to date. The four new feature suites are a wonderful addition. Accommodation The Talbot has 35 en-suite bedrooms including 4 beautiful feature rooms. Hosting your Function With 4 meeting rooms, the hotel can cater for 100 conference delegates or 80 wedding guests, and holds a civil wedding licence. There is ample free car parking adjoining the hotel. Around and About Oundle is a stone-built town with plenty of Georgian architecture to admire and a 14th century church. Also nearby is Lyveden New Bield, the shell of an unfinished lodge begun in 1595, designed in the shape of a cross. If you're looking for some modern life, Peterborough (and its shopping centre) is just 10 miles away. Hosting your Functions at The Talbot Hotel Choose the Talbot Hotel for your meeting and conference. One of Harrogate Borough Council's unique heritage facilities, the Sun Pavilion located in the grade II listed Valley Gardens, already has an enviable reputation in the weddings market. Set amidst the beauty and tranquillity of the historic Valley Gardens, the Sun Pavilion in the 1930`s became a most sought after venue for civic and private functions. After a sensitive refurbishment in 1998 it has enjoyed a renaissance as a hugely popular location for weddings, meetings and events of all kinds. "The influence of a beautiful and peaceful environment upon the promotion of health and happiness has never been as obvious as now. The recognition of this fact bears testimony to the wisdom of the people of Harrogate ... to bring human gifts of design and adaption to bear upon natural beauty." (From Lord Horder`s opening address, 1933) On the opening of the Sun Pavilion by Her Majesty The Queen, it marked the end of a year long refurbishment programme, funded by the Heritage Lottery Commission, which sensitively endowed the Sun Pavilion with all its former glory. With the exception of the new entrance on Cornwall Road, the Sun Pavilion is virtually indistinguishable from the original .. from the rich parquet of the dance floor to the splendid glass-domed roof, intricately worked with ornate, stained glass designs.

St Catherine’s College is the largest college within Oxford University and teaches both undergraduate and graduate students. Although one of the youngest Oxford Colleges, we can trace our roots back to 1868, when a ‘Delegacy for Non-Collegiate Students’ was formed. This Delegacy enabled students to gain an Oxford education without the prohibitive costs of college membership. This founding ethos of inclusion is still evident today, and the College has an open, friendly and diverse community amongst its Students, Fellows and Alumni. Our modern college, affectionately known as St Catz, was founded in 1962 by our Founding Master, Lord Alan Bullock. Designed by Danish architect, Arne Jacobsen, our Grade I listing buildings were the first to be granted such status in the post-war era. Jacobsen’s plans for the college did not include a chapel, defining us as a secular college and setting us apart from other Oxford colleges, most of which have a religious foundation. Whilst treasuring the traditional values of Oxford college life, we are committed to evolving with today’s society, which is reflected in our College motto ‘Nova et Vetera’: the new and the old.

The Queen’s College is one of Oxford’s oldest and most central colleges, located on the High Street in the city centre. Affectionately known as “Queen’s”, the college was founded in 1341 by Robert de Eglesfield and named after Queen Philippa of Hainault, the wife of King Edward III. Among the beautiful architecture of Queen’s College are buildings designed by Christopher Wren and Nicholas Hawksmoor. The architectural historian Nikolaus Pevsner famously described the Front Quad of Queen’s as “the grandest piece of classical architecture in Oxford”, an accolade that it clearly deserves. Owing to its central location, Oxford Royale Academy students staying in Queen’s will have easy access to Oxford’s many attractions and amenities. Among Queen’s many impressive and notable alumni are Henry V, the English king best known for his victory at the Battle of Agincourt, the former Prime Minister of Australia Tony Abbott, the theologian John Wycliffe, actor and comedian Rowan Atkinson and Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web.
