The Passages have long exercised a fascination over local people, with stories of wars and sieges, plague and pestilence! Their purpose was simple: to bring clean drinking water from natural springs in fields lying outside the walled city, through lead pipes into the heart of the city. The pipes sometimes sprang leaks and repairs to buried pipes could only be carried out by digging them up as we do today. To avoid this disruption the passages were vaulted and it is down some of these vaulted passageways that visitors are guided.

We have 2 rooms available for hire at ISCA: Our larger room 'Bridge Suite' holds up to 160 people theatre style. We can arrange the room in other ways for smaller numbers upon request. It is ideal for large meetings and presentations and has also been used for school exams. There is an option for a divide to split the room in two if necessary. The Bridge Suite has speakers which can be used with wireless microphones which we provide which have an audio loop if required. There is also a ceiling mounted projector for presentations which can be plugged into a computer. It is also connected to a Video and DVD player. We also supply flip charts upon request. The Committee Room is smaller and holds upto 17 people. It has a long table down the middle, and a white board at the front.

Welcome to the Haldon Belvedere! Devon's most sought after venue is perched high on Haldon Hill and stands in 5 acres of woodland in the heart of the lovely Devon countryside some 6 miles from the cathedral city of Exeter. From its vantage-point, panoramic views extending to Dartmoor, Exmoor, the South Hams, the Exe valley and estuary can be seen. On a really clear day, the Isles of Purbeck and Portland Bill in Dorset are visible. Haldon Belvedere, also known as Lawrence Castle is a Grade II* listed triangular tower originally built in 1788 by Sir Robert Palk as the centre piece to his vast estates and dedicated to the memory of Major-General Stringer Lawrence the founder of the Indian army. You can find us by turning off the A38 at the Exeter Racecourse exit and following the Tourist signs for Haldon Belvedere. Some 2 miles from the A38 you will come to a junction named Haldon Gate. The drive leading to the castle is on the right a few metres beyond this junction. The entrance to the carpark is on the right just before the gates leading to the drive. Visitors should use the designated carpark but coaches will require to use the parking splay at Haldon Gate junction. CONFERENCES AND FUNCTIONS Haldon Belvedere is available for private functions, corporate entertaining or for that very special launch or event. Because of Health and Safety issues, the preparation of hot food within the building itself is not possible but a buffet style reception is possible for a maximum of 45 people. We have designated caterers who have a range of menus to suit all tastes. To maintain quality and hygiene requirements, hirers are not permitted to provide their own catering or bring in caterers other than our designated caterers.
