    Conferences Bylaugh is a quiet retreat away from the busy crowds at which to hold your seminars and conferences. At present we tailor our service directly to your requirements. There are a number of rooms, some large, some small. Some very light, some darker and appropriate for projectors etc. There are many and varied rooms to break-out to, throughout this buildings complex. Some with soft furnishings, others with tables and chairs. It is also for the 2 to 4 day conference. The rooms are all comfortable and ensuite, and each displaying the character inherent in this wonderful building. The chef is French, and the cuisine is of a good standard.     Norwich was founded in 1659 by settlers from Old Saybrook led by Major John Mason and Reverend James Fitch. They purchased the land that would become Norwich from the local Native American Mohegan Tribe. In 1668, a wharf was established at Yantic Cove. Settlement was primarily in the three mile area around the Norwichtown Green. The 69 founding families soon divided up the land in the Norwichtown vicinity for farms and businesses. By 1694 the public landing built at the head of the Thames River allowed ships to off load goods at the harbor. The distance between the port and Norwichtown was serviced by the East and West Roads which later became Washington Street and Broadway. During the American Revolution Norwich supported the cause for independence by supplying soldiers, ships, and munitions. One of the most infamous figures of the Revolution, Benedict Arnold, was born in Norwich. Other Colonial era noteworthies include Samuel Huntington, Christopher Leffingwell, and Daniel Lathrop. Norwich served as leadership center for Connecticut during the Civil War as Governor William Buckingham was from Norwich and used his home as a de facto office during the war years. Also, State Senator Lafayette Foster later became Acting Vice President after President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. During this period, Frances M. Caulkins composed her histories of both Norwich and New London. Today, Norwich is a thriving city with a stable population, wide range of municipal services, a modern industrial park, its own utility company, and a positive outlook for residential and business growth The Regus business center is situated in a prominent location just 10 minutes walk from the city center.
