Based inside the 24,000sq ft former BBC Broadcasting House on Queen Street, the Jam House is a music club based on a similar American concept called House of Blues which can be found in LA and Chicago. The unique Jam House concept began in 1999 as an amalgamation between Jools Holland and designer Neil Tibbatt. The partnership wanted to produce a night out which had elements of live music, fine dining and good times. Jools Holland’s involvement ensures credibility and the very best live musical experience. He and his Rhythm ‘n’ Blues Orchestra will also play at the Jam House. Jools said: “I have always enjoyed the ambiance of the Jam House in Birmingham. When we play there it's a perfect place to swing the blues. Edinburgh is one of my favourite places in the world and I hope we can bring the same atmosphere to the Jam House there.” The Jam House has an intimate atmosphere for a live music venue favouring the ‘unplugged’ feel with more contact between artists and members of the public. There are no futuristic, technological lighting effects, just simple theatrical style focused on the artist and providing a live entertainment experience. This theatrical element is enhanced by the fact that the venue’s stage area inside the former BBC Broadcasting House was once where live performances were broadcast and recorded. Former smaller recording studios have been opened up and will become bars and lounge areas, further using the space to fully encourage customers to appreciate the historical musicality of the venue. An a la carte dining experience allows customers to enjoy a blend of flavours from around the world and an inspired wine list enhances the choice and quality. Edinburgh artist David Begbie is the designer of the Jam House logo, the angel motif, which can also be seen inside the venue in the angel sculpture, maintaining the theme. The first Jam House venue, in Birmingham’s St Paul’s Square, was built inside a three storey Georgian building in the heart of the jewellery quarter, opposite St Paul’s Church. The venue has since hosted jazz, blues and rock artists and has featured performances from Chaka Khan, The Stylistics, The Specials, The Beat, Steve Gibbons, Buddy Greco, Pato Banton, Paul Carrick and of course, Jools and his Rhythm ‘n’ Blues orchestra. Celebrity guests at the venue have included Bill Wyman, Ocean Colour Scene and many others. The JamHouse Edinburgh is open daily for corporate events, social functions and group bookings.
