    The Crown Inn, Old Amersham is the second in a family of modern day coaching Inns, all in historic timber framed buildings. Using locally sourced food cooked simply; eating, drinking, lodgings. Amersham, a market town in the Chiltern countryside, has a wide distinctive High Street which was once filled with a dozen inns, six butchers and nine greengrocers. It is 26 miles from London and originally one day’s travel from London, until the roads improved. Now only an hour from central London, at the end of the Metropolitan tube line and 40 minutes drive from Heathrow, it is the perfect stop over for those visiting London, the west of England and the surrounding Chiltern countryside. The Crown has inglenook fires, crooked floors, and a cobbled courtyard. The buildings have been renovated by Ilse Crawford (other works include Babington House) in the spirit of the English vernacular, using country materials such as oak, rush matting and tweeds and furniture from English suppliers. Feasting is an integral part of the Inn, with the food concept in the charge of the celebrated Rosie Sykes, author of the Kitchen Revolution and columnist for Waitrose Food Illustrated. The kitchen cooks locally grown, organic, seasonal dishes served simply on pewter plates. For conferences The Crown has the ‘back room’, with inglenook fire and views of the cobbled courtyard, which can accommodate up to 40 seated, or 16 in the Bailey Room, situated behind the main Inn near the little walled garden. The Crown has snug corners and alternative rooms for break out options. For those needing a bed for the night there are 37 bedrooms; half of which are Ilse Crawford new Inn rooms, using pure cotton sheets with extra Jakob’s wool blankets, enormous beds and bright Roberts Radios and the other half are traditionally designed bedrooms, some of which open straight onto the cobbled courtyard.
