    The Talbot Hotel dates from the eighteenth century, and succeeds a much older inn which stood in Malton’s market place at the sign of the Golden Talbot - a French hunting hound and the heraldic symbol of the ancient family of Eure and is a great place for conferences and meetings. The "new" Talbot was the first in Ryedale to be called "a hotel" and was the town’s posting house where coaches stopped to break their journeys from York and Leeds, to Scarborough and Whitby.
